HEYFORD FIELDS MARINA

Not long after buying The Antidote, Paul and Julia decided to relocate her to Heyford Fields Marina. This is a new 100-berth marina on the Grand Union Canal between Bugbrooke and Nether Heyford in Northamptonshire.

It opened officially in June 2008 and the aerial photo shows how much space there is to manoeuvre - which was always tight at Weltonfield!

BED SETTEE

One of Paul's first projects was to move the sofabed from the saloon to the rear cabin, replacing it in the saloon with free-standing chairs.

The photos show the rear cabin with the sofabed fixed in its new position. To accommodate this, Paul had to move the desk from its position on the bulkhead behind the utility room, over to the starboard wall.

He did a brilliant job in refitting the sofabed, and the rear cabin looks really good now. This new arrangement looks much more professional than it did with the Argos sofabed in this cabin.

THE SALOON

Having freed up some space by moving the sofabed out, there was now room in the saloon to put the armchairs in.

This is basically how the boat started its life, but Paul's leather captain's chairs look a lot smarter than the original furniture did.

SOFT FURNISHINGS

After several years' exposure to the sun, the red curtains had become faded, so they needed replacing. I suspect that Julia had a significant input into the choice here, but the new curtains certainly look good!

New soft furnishings in the master bedroom too.

PAINTWORK TOUCH-UP

Having made the internal changes which he wanted to do, Paul turned his attention to the outside of the boat. Gold paint does not weather particularly well, so the first priority was to touch up the boat name. The photo shows the first class result which Paul achieved.

CRUISING

Paul and Julia have made good use of The Antidote since purchasing her, having cruised much of the waterways in the south of England.

Since taking over the boat they have added 500 engine hours, and in 2009 they spent 135 nights on board - that's over one third of the year!

Here's a typically idyllic rural scene from one of their cruises.
