The Falkirk WheelFalkirk Wheel

The Falkirk Wheel is a fantastic feat of modern engineering. Opened in 2002 to reconnect the Forth & Clyde Canal to the Edinburgh & Glasgow Union Canal, it is the only rotating boat lift in the world.

A site whose aim is to promote the waterways. It tells what is happening in the world of narrowboating and claims to be the most visited waterways site on the web.

CanalworldCanalworld discussion forums

A forum for discussing any issue about boating on the UK inland waterways. Membership is free and members can browse the discussion boards, submit their pictures to the photo gallery, and discuss issues of common concern.

Bedford & Milton Keynes Waterway Trust

The Trust's vision is to build a 20-mile broad canal from Milton Keynes to Bedford. The waterway will inspire the development of new housing, leisure facilities, and commercial projects along its route.

The Anderton Boat LiftAnderton Boat Lift

Located near Northwich in Cheshire, the Anderton Boat Lift is a tribute to Britain's canal engineers. Built in 1875 and recently restored, it was a 'world first' and is currently the only boat lift in England.

Mikron Theatre CompanyMikron Theatre Company

Mikron presents live theatre with a strong musical element doing at least two tours a year: a summer tour on the inland waterways of England by narrowboat Tyseley; and an autumn road tour in the north of England.

Boat Safety Scheme

The BSS was jointly established in 1997 by the Environment Agency and British Waterways to promote safety on the inland waterways. Meeting the BSS safety standards is a requirement in order to obtain a navigation licence.

Waterway Recovery Group

The Waterway Recovery Group is a voluntary organisation, helping to restore derelict canals in Britain. The WRG runs weekend working parties and week-long work camps every year.

British Waterways British Waterways

British Waterways is a public corporation sponsored by DEFRA in England and Wales and the Scottish Executive in Scotland. BW manages 2,200 miles (3,960km) of canals and rivers in the UK.

The London Canal Museum London Canal Museum

The museum at King's Cross shows (amongst other things) a narrowboat cabin, the history of London's canals, the cargoes carried, the people who lived and worked on the waterways, and the horses that pulled their boats.

Small Ships Register

The Small Ships Register (SSR) is administered by the Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA). It enables you to register ownership of a boat less than 24 metres long (but you are not allowed to have "The" in the name!!).

National Canal Museum National Canal Museum

The Museum in Easton, Pennsylvania, USA, focuses on America's historic canals. Exhibits show what life was like on board a canal boat, the impact canals had on industry, and the technological advances they generated.

The Kennet and Avon Canal Trust

All about the Kennet and Avon Canal - the broad canal/river navigation that runs from Reading to Hanham Lock (near Bristol) including the Caen Hill flight of 29 locks - the longest flight of broad locks in UK.

Dogs Trust Dogs Trust
